Searching or browsing for and in communities

Search or browse for communities that you're interested in. When you find a community, you can search within it for more detailed information.

About this task

You can search for a community from any page in HCL Connections™, or you can open the Communities app and filter communities to find what you need.

Procedure

You can find communities that interest you in the following ways.
  • In the menu bar, click Communities and then click My Communities, Discover, or Invited. You see a card-based display of Communities that match your selection.
    1. To see a description of a community, click the arrow in the card. Then click the Actions icon to see what you can do right there, such as join or follow the community.
    2. If you don't see communities you want, filter the view in one of these ways:
      • Enter a community name, keyword, or tag in the filter search box.
      • Click the Filter by icon to expand a sidebar where you can click what you want to filter by.
      • Click the label next to the arrow, either Recently Visited or Trending Now with My Company depending on which tab you're on, and select a different sorting option from the list.
    3. To open a community, click its card.
  • From Connections search:
    1. From any page, click Search Search icon.
    2. Enter a name, tag, or keyword to find matching communities.
      Note that before you even start typing your recent history displays so you can quickly access a community you recently visited.
    3. Select the community from the search results.
  • To search within a community, take the following steps:
    1. Open the community that you want to search.
    2. Click Search Search icon.
    3. Enter one or more keywords to search for and select This Community.
    4. Select the content that you want from the search results.
  • The Recommendations app on the classic home page lists communities that you might be interested in based on the communities you're currently a member of.
  • You can also search for the following file types:
    • Most Microsoft Office file types, including
      • Microsoft Word (.doc)
      • Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt)
      • Microsoft Excel (.xls and .xlsx)
    • OpenDocument file types
      • Database (.odb)
      • Formula (.odf)
      • Graphics (.odg)
      • Presentation (.odp)
      • Spreadsheet (.ods)
      • OpenDocument Text (.odt)
    • Other file types
      • Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)
      • Plain text (.txt)
      • Rich Text Format (.rtf)
      • HTML (.html, .htm)
      • XML (.xml)
